I was burned out after twenty years in professional ministry—the last thirteen were in chaplaincy and CPE in a Level I trauma center in a major urban setting. I gave myself a sabbatical, and hiked for a year with my husband on the Appalachian Trail. When we finished our thru-hike, we relocated closer to family, so I found myself in Michigan without a supporting community of colleagues.
